Erkki Tervo

FIN 102: Apparatus gymnastics is for all!

Traditional gymnastics apparatus can be adapted/supplemented in order to suit different ability levels. Apparatus gymnastics can be also valuable for elderly people. Power, dynamic balance and body control can be improved through regular exercise. Ergonomic concerns are important. Exercise series need to be planned carefully in order to foster the development of physical capabilities. This must be kept in mind when modifying apparatus, exercise environment, tasks and teaching methodology.

The instructor Erkki Tervo, MA is a university lecturer for sports pedagogy at the University of Jyväskylä. He functioned also as FIG council member and has developed gymnastics programs for disabled/elderly people and modified equipment for educational gymnastics. His videos are available online and have been also published by the European Commission and the FIG.
